چکیده

We conducted reversed deliquescence experiments in saturated NaCl–NaNO3 – H2O, KNO3 – NaNO3 – H2O, and NaCl–KNO3 – H2O systems from 90 to 120 °C as a function of relative humidity and solution composition. NaCl, NaNO3 , and KNO3 represent members of dust salt assemblages that are likely to deliquesce and form concentrated brines on high-level radioactive waste package surfaces in a repository environment at Yucca Mountain, NV. Discrepancy between model prediction and experiment can be as high as 8% for relative humidity and 50% for dissolved ion concentration. The discrepancy is attributed primarily to the use of 25 °C models for Cl–NO3 and K–NO3 ion interactions in the current Yucca Mountain Project high-temperature Pitzer model to describe the nonideal behavior of these highly concentrated solutions. © 2005 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1872292#

Germination of Salt Tolerant and Non - Tolerant Alfalfa in Nacl, Nan03, Kcl, Kno3, and Mannitol

Five cycles of germination NaC1 tolerant alfalfa and the source population, 'Mesa Sirsa', were germinated in four salt solutions (NaC1, NaNO3, KC1, and KNO3) and Mannitol to try to determine the general mechanism involved in seed germination salt tolerance. Average germination over all germplasm sources in NaC1, NaNO3, KC1, KNO3, and Mannitol were 44.80, 38.88, 36.24, 29.07, and 60.93 percent, ...

Assessment of a Molten Salt Heat Transfer Fluid in a Parabolic Trough Solar Field

An evaluation was carried out to investigate the feasibility of utilizing a molten salt as the heat transfer fluid (HTF) and for thermal storage in a parabolic trough solar field to improve system performance and to reduce the levelized electricity cost. The operating SEGS1 plants currently use a high temperature synthetic oil consisting of a eutectic mixture of biphenyl/diphenyl oxide. The sco...

Influence of stearic acid coating of the NaCl surface on the reactivity with NO2 under humidity.

In the atmosphere, sea salt aerosols, containing mainly NaCl, can accumulate fatty acids and undergo heterogeneous chemistry with atmospheric nitrogen oxides. The effect of stearic acid (SA) coating on the reactivity of the NaCl(100) surface with NO2 under humidity was studied by atomic force microscopy (AFM), Raman mapping and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) to highli...

Phase Equilibrium of NaNO3/KNO3 in Glycerol + H2O Mixed Solvent System at 288.15 K and 298.15 K

“Salting out effect” means that the addition of an organic solvent to an aqueous solution of a salt will reduce the solubility of salts and thus induce its precipitation.1 Therefore, the investigations of the physicochemical properties of inorganic salts in organic solvents – water, such as solubility data together with density, refractive index and so on, are of great scientific importance. Va...
